Seems to be getting a bit better at 1545. 1547: Sounds like a ham (or MARS?) net being relayed by someone in AM mode here. I guess it must be the unid station that's been on through the morning & afternoon lately relaying lots of stuff. Still on when I tuned in WEEK Radio a few hours later

Test: Radio GSV from Scotland said the station will be testing to North America on 6965 kHz with music and IDs at 0330 UTC tonight. The station tested with Morse code a day or so ago, but it wasn't really heard, so we'll see how if the propagation improves.

L0de Radio: 6930U, 7/26, ca.0400 Fair signal, but not quite strong enough to sit back and understand everything. All telephone callins. I hit record so that I could go back & hear the show on headphones.

stuck in the office for part of today, so I was listening to Dutch MW pirates via the University of Twente web receiver:

Radio Odynn: 1628, 7/26, 2040+ Extremely strong & nice audio with music by Stray Cats, Ramones, Aerosmith, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Madness, & later Dolly Parton singing "Stairway to Heaven." Professional-sounding IDs and announcements in both English and Dutch.

Unid: 1620, 7/26, 2040+ Good signal with schlager music. I was mostly staying on 1628 kHz, hoping that I'd hear an ID there first. I think it went off around 2100 or so.

Unid: 1636.5, 7/26, 2040+ This one was almost entirely schlager, but I did hear a couple of songs in English. I think this is the station that played ABBA "Knowing Me, Knowing You," but I'm typing this from memory. This station even played a yodeling song! Another extremely strong signal, but I didn't hear any talk or IDs.

Passed by a couple of other stations... I think one was 1648 & another one was around 1665 kHz.

Tip & Elvis Radio Show: 6220, 7/26, 2315 The Dutch theme of the day continues with this one. Thunderstorm crashes are making this difficult, but the signal is good for this time of day. I'm hoping to find my headphone adapter so that I can dig out some details from the noise.

Radio Free Whatever: 6925U, 7/27, 0212+ Very strong, but really "watery" sounding signal--kinda like low-bit-rate streaming audio. Canned station ID, then long pause and Dick Weed & Stephen mentioning that maybe that hard drive failed. But more music from a new drive. Talk about wearing lavendar-scented Hefty garbage bags as ponchos to sleep in, or just for comfort. It's been a month or maybe a couple months since I've heard RFW.

Wolverine Radio: 6940U, 7/27, 0216+ About the same strength as RFW. "Dream Lover," ID "Dream, Dream, Baby" "California Dreamin'" "I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night." I think I might have an idea what the theme of tonight's show is. Nice to hear Wolverine R again, too.

Unid: 6960L, 2/27, 0419+ Decent signal here in heavy static crashes with bits of different music genres, announcements, etc. On & off the air a lot. A couple different announcements in Spanish. Thanks to Skipmuck for the tip on this one. Until I hear more that shows otherwise, I'm thinking pescadore broadcast

I've been behind with work and just starting to catch up, but I had a chance to check the radio (and will hopefully continue to do so throughout the weekend)

Old-Time Radio Unid: 6772, 5/24-25, 2310+ Fair signal with OTR shows. On HFU, Ed Insinger mentioned that he was hearing "Unshackled," but I evidently tuned in later because this show was comedy with a laugh track (or live audience laughter). At 0115, a comedy about a man trying to buy flowers, then an ad for a "stomach sweetener" and, I think, laxative. An orchestra playing "Accentuate the Positive." Sig up to S9+10, but noise is still pretty rough. Ah, heard the advertisers at the end of the show clearly: Sal Hepatica & Vitalis. Into new show with louder, clearer audio: Red Skelton. After the 6920 unid went off, I tuned back to 6772 and caught the end of what sounded like a WWII mystery with a professor. After a long pause, a number of big band songs (kinda EZL big band).

MAC: 6950, 5/24, 2311+ Excellent sig with Jimmy Stewart show & '40s music. Heard one of the singing M-A-C jingles

Unid: 6924.4, 5/25, 0014+ Just a carrier here. I'm assuming it's a pirate, but I don't know who

Renegade Radio: 6935U, 5/25, 0218+ A bit weaker than normal here and some Ute noise. Requesting reports & e-mails to add & HFU. Talking about listening to audio from the Winterfest & he plans to pull some of that up. Also, he hasn't heard back from WEAK Radio, so he said hi to him & said that he hopes he's OK

Unid: 6920U, 5/25, 0333-0343* Decided to check back on the radio & I found a big signal on 6920. The signal is strong and wide. I've opened it up to the 6-kHz bandwidth and it sounds great . . .so good that it reminds me of Wolverine's transmitter. Whatever station this is did a nice job buying, building, or modifying their transmitter. All instrumental ethereal music. Off at about 0343.

Pipeline Radio: 6925, 5/25-265, 2346+ Surfin' theme station. Lotsa Beach Boys & other surf music. Excellent S9+10 signal!

Old-Time Radio Unid: 6771.6, 5/25-26, 2345+ Went into the radio room and the R8 was still tuned to essentially the same frequency Big signal again, but noise is down a bit, making this much easier to listen to. EZL music here, just like last night after 0400. Still strong with EZL music, now light jazz and crooner music at 0142. Tuned back in at 0452 & this one is back to OTR. A dramatic presentation on this time

Voice of Honor: 6930U, 5/26, 0025+ Memorial Day theme station. Military music and IDs. Excellent signal with S9+20 peaks. Reports to voiceofhonor /at/ gmail dot com. "Don't Tread on Me" flag SSTV image at the end of the show

KCPR: 6925U, 5/26, 0424+ Very weak and tinny-sounding music on frequency. ID per logs from West Coast DXers on HFU. Adjusted the frequency a few Hz & it sounds a bit less tinny now. It still has a really far away sound. My 1st time to hear this one. Looking forward to hopefully logging one or more clear IDs. Heard presumably a CW ID for KCPR at 0433 . . . "presumably" because I don't copy code without a key in front of me (and even then, it's very slow). I think the music here is basically all country. Copied an SSTV image at the end of the show

Old-Time Radio Unid: 6771.6, 5/26, 1230+ Checked this morning & back again at 1425 and the station is still on the air with older easy-listening music. Presumably, this has been on since yesterday around 2000 UTC (possibly earlier).

Pirate Radio Boston: 6924.6, 5/26, 1425-1439* ID per HFU. Just heard clear IDs + e-mail address and Belfast, NY maildrop. Signal is weak here, but still nice to hear Charlie again.

YHWH: 21450U, 3/29, 1913-1921* Religious station here on the edge of the ham band getting hammered by QRM. When other stations are off the air, it's 100% copyable. Trying to hear enough of the programming to get a read on the op's theology. Op only says "Yahweh" not "God." Going through the 10 Commandments, one by one, with commentary in between. "Thanks for choosing this radio station, YHWH." Into weird synthesizer music. "Thanks for tuning in to radio station YHWH. Until next time, I love you. Radio station YHWH now signing off." If the operator's out there, Please QSL...also I have a recording.

Ran some errands, continued digging out a flower bed, and checked the computer YHWH is back:

YHWY: 21450U, 3/29, 2016+ Tuned back in to hear the weird synthesizer song. Sig about as good as last time, but most ARO QRM on the frequency. OK, the op does say "Yahweh God." I tuned into the broadcast earlier than last time, but absolutely hammered by QRM. I think he said this show was "Break the Evil Spell of Satan." I think he just said "...the homosexual Catholic Church." He said something like "Christendom has exhibited nothing but bloodshed throughout its history." Now talking about how the 5-pointed star on the US flag is satanic. Hmm...I'd like to hear more of this to be able to put these comments in context with the rest of the programming. It would definitely benefit YHWY to move up a few kHz and get out of the ham band...and I'm sure the hams would appreciate it, too. An exasperated ham just repeated "Frequencia en uso" a few times. From what I can tell, the programming seems to have settled into more traditional Christianity. Wow, I've just had about a minute without any QRM!

Planted some trees and now back to check the radio. I have strong carriers on 6921.7 and 6930 kHz. Not sure who they are. Checked HFU & found a Europirate:

Tip & Elvis: 6220, 3/29/14, 2246+ Weak with pop music. Time for supper, but I'm recording. I returned to the radio & heard a bit of music then an announcement and the bands are wiped out by local noise.

The noise disappeared and according to HFU logs, 6930 is Premier Radio from Ireland. Also, I'm hearing what, according to the op in Iann's Chat is Radio Flying Dutchman on 6255 kHz. Pretty good carrier, but barely any audio here. I had some audio on 6324.3 & I think it was Radio Dinosaur from Europe. Lots of noise on the band, though.

Radio Appalachia: 6935, 3/30/14, 0011-0113* After listening to Europirates, trying to pull information out of the static for the past hour or so, I tuned to 6935 kHz, where there was a huge signal with bluegrass music. Lots of live older country & bluegrass music. "Radio Appalachia, you are listening to Radio Appalachia, broadcasting from high atop Moundsville, WV, this is Radio Appalachia." by Male announcer with echo. The Carter Family "Peace in the Valley" "Old Rugged Cross" "He Walks with Me." Lots of t-storm noise tonight, but strong signal. Thanks for the show & please QSL.

Wolverine Radio: 6950U, 3/30/14, 0114+ Starting with old swing songs. I don't have the titles for what I've heard, but every song has mentioned "tonight," so I think that's the theme of tonight's show. Excellent signal & audio

Horizon FM (Canary Islands): 6205, 3/30/14 0440+ Good signal with light pop music. Definitely worth a listen deeper into North America in regions where Europirates usually can't be heard.

My weekend loggings: 2/28-3/2/14

Unid: 6867.4, 2/28, 2321+ Madness "It Must Be Love," Thomas Dolby "She Blinded Me with Science," Billy Joel "Sometimes a Fantasy" a break with some right-wing talk (from a radio show) about how anyone trying to enslave us is the enemy. In a different break between songs, what is evidently audio from a porno movie. Strange mixture of programming

Premier Radio (Ireland--ID per HFU): 6915.14, 2/28, 2340+ I have a carrier here, but that's all. It'd be nice to hear Premier Radio International again--last time for me was probably about 10 years ago and I had a very copyable signal.

Turtlehead Radio: 6930U, 3/1, 0511+ Pretty good signal tonight. Music, sounds like movie audio about a war hero "You are currently listening to Turtlehead Radio" Hi to Harry Smith, Red Mercury Labs & said RML is his favorite station, also hi to some of the other people who logged Turtlehead tonight. After another song, more shoutouts to people, including Refmo & Tom S. Asking for requests. "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes, which isn't commonly aired on pirate stations.

Radio Free Whatever: 6975.4, 3/1, 2102-2107* Fair signal with what sounds like old psychedelic rock. Clear IDs with Dick Weed and Stephen. They talked a bit about how this was show #225 & how to get a QSL. Also some comments about Stephen hosting the all-disco show.

Voice of Portugal: 6925, 3/1, 2224+ Theme program about cows with mooing cows throughout the entire program--even during all of the songs about bovines. Looking forward to hearing who this is. Now into a backward instrumental song. Gave IDs "Voice of...." but I think I'll need to listen on headphones a few times to get it right (if then, ha!) Air raid sirens. Think there was a cow farting in there, too. (just went to listen again & the ID clicked with my ears & brain)

Voice of Portugal: 6925, 3/1, 2344+ Repeat of earlier program. Tuned in during the Bob Seger parody. Signal is a bit better this time

Unid: 6925U, 3/2, 2250+ Received 3 SSTV images of what looks kind of like the Cheetos Cheetah. Some words are at the bottom, but it's not clear enough for me to be able to read them.

Auds'n'Ends: 2/20/14

Electricity was in the air on Saturday night.

Of course. This is radio. Any time a radio station is on the air, the signals are bouncing around the ionosphere.

But Saturday night, was different because Undercover Radio was on the air and with a lot of power. Again, this isn't anything new. Undercover radio often uses a lot of power and so does Wolverine Radio. Wolverine is often heard all around the world.

The difference is that approximately 40 listeners (from at least 18 different states and two Canadian provinces) reported the broadcast on the pirate forums. Shortwave broadcasting is supposedly dead and buried, but this was a fantastic turnout, just from those active loggers, let alone all of the listeners who heard the broadcast but didn't write about it.

To add to the incredible signal and the number of listeners, the audio was excellent as was the programming.

Dr. Benway took advantage of the excellent signals and captive audience to offer two-sided Undercover Radio t-shirts for sale, with "all funds raised going to the Wounded Warriors."

Good times listening to the radio.

* I'm selling off a few things on eBay to clear some space around here. Everything is starting really low, so I thought I'd mention them here. Ramsey FM-10 (working) starting at $4.99, a Hallicrafters HT-18 low-power CW/NBFM transmitter starting at $49.49, and a WiNRADiO WR-1550E software-defined receiver (SDR) starting at $4.99.

We do not know yet times or dates of these transmissions- It might be only one or two different sessions in the end of February or start of March 2014. We would like to have few hours to be aired but that is absolutly not sure.

My New Year's Eve/New Year's Day Loggings 12/31/13-1/2/13

Radio GaGa: 6925U, 2254 Playing Barnes & Barnes "Fishheads" ELP "Lucky Man" etc. "Live from Zipper Lake" ID

Unidentified: 6955, 2309+ All percussion, no IDs heard yet. Nice signal here with deep fading

I made the mistake of eating supper and a bunch of stations were on the air, according to logs on the HFU: CCC Radio, NSDAP Radio, and WBOG + an unidentified station or two. My guess is that NSDAP Radio was either some programming aired by CCC Radio or was a different show aired by the same pirate. CCC Radio was KKK-related station that made a couple of broadcasts in the '90s, long after the Voice of Tomorrow had stopped. I never heard the station, but The ACE printed one of their QSLs.

Wolverine Radio: 6950U, 1/1,  0030+ Beautiful signal. Was listening while digging through '90s ACEs, trying to find any logs of CCC Radio (still no luck).

Radio Free Whatever: 6925, 1/1, 0130 Playing "Indians" by Anthrax.

Radio Celestial: 1710, 1/1, 0200 Driving around in the car for a while and heard zilch for a few min. Then got to one spot and could hear Spanish-language contemporary Christian music, so I assume it was them. This immediately faded into what I assume was the NJ TIS, with a promo on getting flu shots. Typical telephonic audio. Best I've ever heard the TIS. Could hear co-channel splatter here, so I assumed it was from 1700 kHz. But then I got home & saw that Undercover Radio was on 1720, so maybe that's where the splatter's coming from. Unfortunately, the MW band is really buzzy here, so I can't really hear anything...and my car stereo only goes up to 1710 kHz.

X-FM: 6960, 1/1, 0645+ Still on the air. Fair signal

Radio Plate Current: 6925U, 1/1, 0700+ A lot of electronic dance music with two DJs. Long periods of talking & announced an e-mail address a few times and with phonetics. Announced the e-mail "because we're in the 21st century." Just sent an e-mail to see if I copied the address correctly. If I get it, I'll list it here, but I don't want to post incorrect info if I can possibly avoid it.

Boom Box Radio: 6850 1316+ Between running around and doing a few things this morning, I saw an announcement from Boom Box Radio, saying that they were on the air. I ran up to the radio room, tuned in, and had a pretty good signal with fades. This was one of their "Breakfast with Boom Box" shows, which is a fun audience-participation concept: On the online forums, when listeners post their loggings, BBR also asks what you had for breakfast. I'm having a variety of cold cereal, but today's responses on ranged from eggs & bacon to beer.

Happy Hanukkah: 6920 2034-2042* Fair signal. Heard a couple of comedians in front of a live audience. Chime interval signal at the end with clear IDs. I haven't heard this station in probably about 15 years. Wonder if they still QSL or if it was simply an old recording and nothing more?

Radio Gallifrey International: 6925U 2212-2223* Heard just before eating supper with The Who "Who Are You?" and an interesting mashup of the Dr. Who theme and Gary Glitter's "Rock and Rock, Part 2" The SSTV image came out fairly well.

Wolverine Radio: 6935U 0230+ Weak but steady. Weird conditions tonight. Can hear what sounds like old acoustic blues. It'll be interesting to see if the SSTV at the end can be decoded tonight

Liquid Radio: 6925 0227-0620+ In and out here with trance music. The signal would fade up and reach downright good levels, then slowly fade down and almost disappear for a while.
